How I work

I have always worked in fields that offered services to vulnerable people.
I’ve learned that psychotherapy or coaching on its own is not enough for challenges in the 21st century and that there is no modality that fits everyone. Applying both disciplines will create a robust foundation to achieve greater success.

Helping individuals to overcome challenges in their lives is like building a house. By utilising psychotherapy, we can explore your past and present, this will build a strong foundation. Coaching techniques will construct the actual building by setting strategies to achieve your goals.

Therapy is done through stages. The first stage is about assessment. I will listen to you and hear your experiences so I can understand what problems have led you to seek help. From there we will understand the roots of your challenges and see how they are affecting your life.
After establishing these we will go through different solutions and see which one works best for you.

The final goal is to set sustainable strategies that will allow you to move forward through your life with confidence, power and purpose.

To ensure that viable changes emerge within a timely framework, an average of between 6 to 8 sessions may needed.
After three sessions we will review the progress that has been made and adjust as necessary.

About Me

I have years of experience working with people from various cultures, ethnicities and backgrounds who were stuck in their personal or professional lives and helped them find a way to move forward.

I also have more than 20 years managerial experience and have worked with organisations where their objectives and goals did not match today’s increasingly competitive workplace. I was able to assist them to enhance people skills and develop several organisational behavioural disciplines to hit their targets.

Despite holding a master’s degree, I went back to university once again and obtained my second post graduate degree in Integrative Coaching and Counselling.

Though I hold two postgraduate degrees,

I believe what the university of life teaches us, is equally, if not more important than theory. It is based on this background that I would like to work with you.

I have been trained in a wide range of therapeutic approaches. These include Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Compassion Focussed Therapy, Existential Therapies, Gestalt, Transactional Analysis, Person-centred and various others. I can use the most relevant and appropriate methods and strategies to work with you in a collaborative and timely manner.

You don’t need to worry about the theory, leave that to me, you just feel comfortable and sit back and talk!

We will work together and develop an authentic working relationship in a safe environment.

Common Questions

What happens at an initial assessment?

It is a chance for me to understand what brought you here and why you need therapy. You can ask any questions and see if I’m the right therapist for you. This also and it allows me to tailor a suitable plan based on your needs.

This is my Job.  In every step of this journey, I will state what approach is best for you and why. So collectively we can utilise a path that best suits your desires and goals.

What happens in a session?

My style is to work at a pace that you are happy and comfortable with. You have autonomy and it is very much up to you to talk about issues that you would like to speak about. We will look at any homework/exercises that may have been given previously and discuss the outcomes. Moving forward, we will jointly design a bespoke plan for you.

What does Integrative mean?

It means that I work with a variety of different therapy approaches. This allows me to ‘integrate’ multiple therapies depending on what each individual needs.

Who do you work with?

I work with people aged 18 and over. On special circumstances I may work with 16-17 year olds, please ring to discuss.  I do not work with people under the age of 16. If you require help for a child it is best to contact the BACP who can recommend therapists for you.

How many sessions should I book?

After our initial 15-minute chat, you can book your first assessment session and then together we can decide how many sessions we need to start with and review as you progress.

I offer sessions from Monday-Friday, and some weekends between 10am and 9pm.

TESTIMONALS

S.V.

“Thank you for being open and honest with me. As a man I initially felt embarrassed to acknowledge my feelings. I was so mauled up. You allowed me to explore my past feelings and say what I want. I now have a better relationship with my wife, I talk to her and talk about worries. She now knows why I am sometime quiet. This is a long journey but thank you for being helping me so far. ”

“Ellie helped me to find myself and stand up again. After my divorce, I felt so low and unwanted but Ellie helped me to regain my confidence and to look at issues from a more positive perspective. ”

J.P.

"I was totally lost and confused, I felt I am getting old but still there was so much that I would like to do and achieve. I was fed up with my job and apprehensive to tell anybody that I want to change my career. Ellie helped me to set new goals in my life and made me think issues from a different perspective. She helped me not be frightened of peoples judgement and instead hear them and move on. "
